A cow by any other name...
The name Cow & Coconut was created as recognition to two influences that were within my world at the time.
Firstly, to the country in which my natural living journey began to take shape, Scotland. The "Cow" in our name is a direct reference to the Highland Cow or "Coo", an animal I have enjoyed for as long as I can remember.
Secondly, to the main ingredient intended to be used in the skincare formulations I was concocting in my tiny kitchen.
Within a few weeks however, I did come to learn that the phrase "you can use coconut oil for anything" (a popular trend around 2013) was in fact inaccurate, as virgin coconut oil is comedogenic, which means that it tends to block your pores and encourage the formation of pimples and blackheads. Oops!
Nevertheless, I've always loved the flavour of coconut and didn't let this deter me from creating the business name.
